Oapor Oasis Project

What's the project doing?

Our Ingredient Strictly Expert has spent long periods of time living in each of the renowned ingredient-gathering regions. Our insistence on the quality of our raw materials and our high standards of scent have always been the things we are most proud of. We work with local farmers to purchase materials at a fair price, allowing local farmers to receive fair remuneration and high standards of material delivery. This is our core competence.

Some of our berries get their scent from Nepal. In Nepal, in the course of continuous work with local farmers, we realized that local poverty and inequality in the status of women often come from a lack of job opportunities. For this reason, we have developed the Oapor Oasis program, which provides jobs for local women, who in turn provide us with quality handmade products.

How does the program work?

With every purchase you make, we're giving away a handmade item from Oapor Oasis Project. With every purchase you make, you're not just buying a scent, you're indirectly supporting:

  • Creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers.
In 2024 we at Oapor are opening an additional small cottage industry in a beautiful area at the foothills of the Himalayas. This will create secure jobs and training in an area where employment is sparse.
  • Commitment to Non-discrimination, gender equity and freedom of association. We strongly promote gender equality & ensure we operate an equal pay for equal work policy.
We will never discriminate against color, gender, disability, pregnancy or political views & every member of staff receives full statutory benefits. We will always take into account and actively endorse special health and safety requirements and provide full resources for each individual staff member based on their specific requirements.
  • Payment of a fair price.
Wages are equal for men and women throughout the workplace, we pride ourselves on not discriminating based on gender. Prices for our designs are worked out using the weight of the materials as well as the time and skill level involved in each piece. These prices are then mutually agreed and reassessed on an annual basis to maintain a fair and responsible pricing structure.

Values of the project

Implementing and Promoting the importance of Fair trade is at the heart of Oapor’s ethics. Every product purchased supports our team of skilled artisans in Nepal, enabling them to live independently with access to safe, discrimination free work with a fair rate of pay.
We don’t want to just create sustainable products, but sustainable employment too.

Respect for the environment is one of the main reasons why the Oapor Oasis program was born. We are passionate about our impact on the social and corporate environment and are happy to share why and how we minimize our environmental footprint.

  • We don't use machines to make our beautiful creations, these are handmade.
  • Our employees work in nearby areas; therefore, no transportation is used.
  • The dyeing process consists of placing carded bundles of fluffy wool fibers into special containers and letting the steam and pigments work together to dye the natural wool any color possible, whether it be a muted tone or a rich hue. The steam used in the process is generated by burning rice husks and the water used is purified on site in an eco-friendly way.
  • The dyes used are “azo-free” and the plant is completely pollution-free, which is of course very rare. The rice husks are burned and even used to fertilize local farmland.
  • Only natural light is then used to dry the felt, and again, no machinery is required for this process.
